Kpop Music Video: Day 16
Warrior by B.A.P. under TS Entertainment
B.A.P., or Best Absolute Perfect, is a 6 member boy band that debuted 14 months ago with their powerful song “Warrior, however two of the boys, Bang Yong Guk and Zelo, had previously made a song together. Their debut song “Warrior” is their most popular song, and are much better at songs that feature rapping versus cute or ballad songs. The make up of the band consists of 2 rappers: BYG and Zelo, two powerful vocal singers: Daehyun and Youngjae, a dancer named Jongup (who’s also a vocalist) and a position known in Kpop bands as the “face” (also called a visual) which means that they add visual interest, by looking good or being a personality (he also dances and raps/sings in a really deep voice) which is Himchan.
This song is a personal step in my Kpop journey, because it was after I watched this video that I discovered Eat Your Kimchi. Simon and Martina’s Kpop Music Monday videos were funny and got me to think about underlying themes in Kpop music videos. I feel like because of them, I became much less of a biased pop fan and much more receptive to new sounds and ideas, while at the same time learning how to speak my mind about Kpop and to back it up with logic and reasoning. The other great thing about this song is that it’s made by a band that gets people who don’t listen to pop into Kpop. This demographic is different from the people that listen to American pop, but not pop from other countries. This group will listen to Jrock or French rap, but not Bubblegum pop, which unfortunately is the genre that dominates Kpop. This is great for me, because my boyfriend is totally the latter type of person, and I was looking for that one band that would spark his interest. Now, he tells ME when B.A.P. is releasing a new single xD
